our story

a little background…

Upon receiving my BFA in photography, I wasn’t quite sure what role photography would play in my life at that point. Growing up with a brother who is developmentally delayed instilled in me a heart for individuals with special needs, and that is what led me to take a job working in that field. I will forever cherish the time I spent getting to know all of the amazing people I had the pleasure of working with. I am certain they taught me so much more than I could ever teach them!

I learned how joy exists in the simplest forms, how beauty can be seen in each and every person, and how every day should be celebrated rather than taken for granted. During this time, I grew to love the relational aspect of working one-on-one with people and something inside of me clicked. I realized I could still help people and build lasting relationships while pursuing the artistic outlet and passion I spent my high school and college years immersed in.

That, in a nutshell, is the course of events that inspired me start Daphne Photo Studio in February 2007. Since then I have conned my husband Donny into working with me (just kidding he is wonderful and loves every minute of it) and we have been blessed beyond belief! We are so excited to see what the future holds!

what? your name is not daphne?

No…Daphne has nothing to do my name at all. Daphne happens to be the name of a doll that my grandpa gave me when I was just 4 years old. Daphne is one of the first gifts I remember receiving from anyone and she instantly became my most prized possession for years to come. She was like my security blanket – I took her everywhere and I absolutely could not sleep without her. I remember one time I left her at a friend’s house and my dad had to make a special trip to go get her late at night before I was able to fall asleep. Even my friends from high school knew who Daphne was because I still kept her on my bed all those years!! Now Daphne does not live on our bed, but she still has a special place in my heart and I hope someday I will have a little girl who might love her just as much as I did.

While driving to Chicago, my friend and I were brainstorming possible business names. I knew I didn’t want to name my business after myself or use my name in any way, so she suggested to think of something that was really special to me. Daphne was one of the first things that came to mind and the name stuck!
