The mad housewife broke my toe!

Posted on October 17, 2008

So yesterday I had one of the blondest moments of my life! We have friends over every Thursday for a potluck dinner and to watch The Office. Well, I stopped at the grocery store on my way home to pick up a few things. On my way to the checkout lane, I was passing by the wine aisle. I don’t know about you, but I like to try different wines based on the cool labels. The label on this particular bottle of chardonnay totally caught my eye, so I went over and picked it up to get a closer look. I was thoroughly amused, so I decided I had to try this wine. As I went to put it in my cart, the bottle slipped out of my hands and landed smack on my toes! Talk about PAIN!! I cannot even describe the pain other than to say it silenced me - I couldn’t move, talk, scream -  nothing! (Which was probably a good thing considering I was in public). A young employee came to my rescue and picked up the bottle (which didn’t even break). I made it home, and after a few hours, my toe was completely swollen and purple. So I’d like you all to meet “the culprit” that broke my toe:

You have to admit the bottle is pretty amusing, huh? Ah the stupidity of our lives sometimes! :)

I am Pam

Posted on October 14, 2008

Do you love The Office as much as I do??? Then check out this great time waster :)

Which Office Character Are You?

You are Pam. You are sweet and likable, but your shyness makes it hard for you to express yourself sometimes. Regardless, you are always there for your friends and will usually come out of your shell to help anyone.

Close to my heart

Posted on October 10, 2008

For those of you who know me or have read my “about” me section, you know that I have a very special place in my heart for individuals with special needs. I am pretty sure this passion developed at a very young age as I grew up with my brother who has special needs. Our family is among the more fortunate families who have children with special needs because Jake is very high-functioning and does not have a diagnosis other than “developmentally delayed”.

I had the privilege of working professionally in the special needs field for about 2 years, and I saw first hand just how many families have huge obstacles to jump through each and every day. In my opinion (and experience with), Autism is among the worst of all developmental disabilities because the manifestations of autism cover such a wide spectrum of physical and mental functioning levels. Anyway…I could go on forever, but I just wanted to mention that there are 2 guys, Robert Williams and Bobby Genese, who are walking across America to benefit families struggling to pay for autism therapy and medical services. They are walking in remembrance of Elias Tembenis, a little boy with autism who died at the age of 6 due to seizure complications.

I heard Bobby Genese on the radio this morning talking about his journey and it is just incredible. Both men started in May 2008 on Route 50 in San Francisco and will end on the Discovery Trail in Washington, DC sometime in late November 2008. That is 3000 miles!!

My 4’s

Posted on October 9, 2008

Thanks to Jess @ Studio3z who tagged me for this fun little survey…

4 things I did today…
1. in an effort to complete # 75 on my 101 list (set up a recycling system in my home), I signed up @ GreenDimes.com to stop junk mail from coming to my house
2. passed my tests to get re-certified in CPR/First Aid
3. let my hair air dry and embraced the curls
4. helped Donny map out all of the circuits in our house

4 things on my to do list…
1. finish planning out all of the final details of my best friend’s combined “bach” party in Chicago
2. buy a 5d
3. get prints, gallery wraps & albums finished for our new client meeting area
4. organize my closet

4 of my guiltiest pleasures…
1. cookies & cream ice cream…as a kid I used say this was my favorite food…as I’ve gotten older, I’ve expanded my horizons a bit…but I don’t think I’ll ever out grow cookies & cream
2. re-arranging & re-decorating our house…my friends laugh every time they come over because something is always different…Donny on the other hand doesn’t find this obsession quite so amusing since he has to help with all of the grunt work
3. slipper boots & space heaters…for someone that is ALWAYS cold, these are must-haves! I have heard that they make those fuzzy pj’s with the feet in them for adults…I think I’m adding these to my must-have list also
4. Texas…even if I didn’t have friends & family who live there, I would still consider Texas one of my favorite places to visit in the whole world

4 random facts about me…
1. I have never been trick-or-treating
2. I have an adopted little brother who looks more like my parents than either my biological brother or I do
3. I was salutatorian & homecoming queen my senior year of high school
4. I hate green beans! I seriously wish I didn’t because they are so easy to make…but I have yet to come across any recipes that I like

4 people I’m tagging…
1. Ryan @ thisisreverb…photographer turned pastor
2. Larry Reeves…one of my most recent blog commenters & [b] school friends
3. Cathy + David…super cool photogs I met @ FTS
4. Steve @ Glass Eye Video…one of the coolest videographers EVER!!
