It’s my birthday!

Today is my birthday…I came into the world on a hot July afternoon 26 years ago – I can’t believe it!! My poor mom had to celebrate her wedding anniversary (which was yesterday – my parents celebrated 29 years!) in labor with stubborn little me. The plan was for me to be born at home, but I apparently didn’t like the idea and decided to turn backwards and make that task impossible. The ambulance ride to the hospital turned me around and then I was born pretty much right away.

I thought it would be fun to write about some of the highlights since my last birthday (in no particular order)…

  1. I have more than doubled the growth of my business – which I am extremely thankful for
  2. Donny and I adopted a dog and increased the level of joy & entertainment in our house by 100% – not that our house was sad and boring before – but you dog owners out there know what I mean
  3. My dear friend/former classmate & roommate Kim who now lives in Chicago FINALLY got engaged (haha just kidding Kim) and asked me to be her maid of honor in her wedding this November
  4. I became an aunt for the second time…my brother & his wife had their second child on 7/3/08…a little boy named Noah Jack
  5. I shot my first (of many more I hope) destination wedding in Texas last November
  6. My little brother Jake enjoyed his first beer with us on his 21st birthday back in April
  7. Donny and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary in March
  8. My cousin Andrea who I work with just got engaged and I had the pleasure of shooting her engagement session last week (blog post coming soon). We talk about our men all the time and we have been waiting for the day her man was going to pop the question. He did while they were on a mission trip in Brazil and it was beautiful!
  9. My sister in law Jenny moved back to town and now lives right up the street…oh yeah and she found herself a good man too
  10. My aunt and long-time family friend both were diagnosed with breast cancer and are both in remission – praise God!

I am sure I’m missing some, but that’s all I have time to think about right now. After a meeting with a prospective client, Donny is taking me to see The Dark Knight tonight and I can’t wait! He already sent me flowers…I am a blessed woman!

Jess (studio3z) - hey happy late birthday!!! I thought of you yesterday, but struggled to make my way over here. :) Hope your day was GREAT! Brett and I are doing the same thing for my birthday later this week- going to see Batman!!! Can’t wait.

Melanie & Adam ~ married

It has been a crazy couple of weeks since Melanie & Adam’s wedding, so I apologize that I am just now getting the blog post up! Anyway…on to the wedding details!

When I first met with Melanie & Adam back in October, we chatted over coffee at Starbucks and it turned out that I had something in common with both of them. Although I didn’t know her at the time because she graduated a couple of years after me, Melanie is also a DAAP alumni with her Fashion Design degree which she now uses designing clothing for Abercrombie & Fitch. Adam also shares my passion for people with disabilities and works in the special needs field. I knew from our meeting that I was going to enjoy their wedding because Melanie & Adam are so laid back & fun. On top of that, they are pretty good-looking too:)

The day started with “getting ready” pictures at Melanie’s parents house and then we went to Ault Park for the bridal party pictures and the ceremony. Despite the torrential downpour that surprised us as we were taking group shots before the ceremony, the day progressed smoothly. Their wedding took place in the Rose Gardens at Ault Park and it was absolutely beautiful! Their quaint reception at the Sweetwine Banquet Center was also beautiful.

Melanie & Adam ~ your wedding was a blast and I am so glad I had the opportunity to share it with you. Congratulations and I wish you all the best!

I love all of your photos you do an amazing job…I was wondering if I could use one of these photos on the lodges website…the one of the wedding dress on the couch. I could make it link to your blog- let me know what you think. Our site is so ugly and I’m trying to make it a little prettier :)

Holly - hey, kelly! i’m holly. jess wallace did my senior session yesterday and we were talking about how i want to go into photography. we weren’t sure what it took to get into DAAP, so she referred me to you! :) so, my question is: what does one need to do to get into DAAP for photography? do you need a portfolio of photos? a good GPA already established at UC? fill me in pleeease. :) thank ya!

The pictures are stunning! You were the best decision we made! We’re both so excited going through all of them and re-living the day! It all went by so fast. You seriously did an amazing job. I’m glad we chose someone from DAAP!

Back from Nashville

Nashville was an absolute blast! Even if you’re not a country music fan (which I’m not), Nashville is a fun city. There is so much to do…and man did we cram a lot into our weekend. Here are several pictures from the weekend (excuse the quality of some of them from the point & shoot:))…

Alyssa Turns 1

It was such a pleasure photographing this sweet little girl the other day. I photographed her parent’s wedding back in March and it was great to see the family again. Kelly (her mom) baked a cake just for Alyssa to play in for some fun pictures. And boy did she have a blast!
