a little about me

It wasn’t until a good friend urged me to consider photographing people with special needs that I ever thought starting a photography business would be in my future…

Upon receiving my BFA in photography from the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Architecture, Art, & Planning, I wasn’t quite sure what role photography would play in my life. All I knew was that it was time to grow up, and job security presented itself in 9-5 form at that time.

It was not long before I was asked to shoot weddings & portraits for friends and family. I continued to do various freelance jobs on the side for several years and then photography took a back seat for a bit while I decided to pursue my other passion and take a job working with special needs individuals.

I will forever cherish that year and a half I spent getting to know each and every person I had the pleasure of working with. I am certain they taught me so much more than I could ever teach them! I learned how joy exists in the simplest forms, how beauty can be seen in each and every person, and how every day should be celebrated rather than taken for granted.

During a portrait session with one of my friends who has Down syndrome, something inside of me clicked and I realized that I was living in a perfect moment where I was pursuing both of my passions at once. Fast forward 2 years and here I am today – celebrating life and capturing beauty with each and every person I am privileged to photograph. This is pure JOY.

Since officially opening for business in February 2007, I have been blessed beyond belief! I have met so many wonderful people who have invited me into their lives to capture those special moments they want to cherish forever, and I have had the distinct privilege of doing editorial work for Visionaries & Voices and the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati (DSAGC). One of the most exciting things during Daphne Photo Studio’s short existence has been seeing several of my photographs featured and published in various books, websites and magazines produced by the (DSAGC).

I just can’t wait to see what the future holds! Thanks for stopping by and considering Daphne Photo Studio…
